Footage of video assistant referee reviews will be displayed to fans on the Wembley Stadium big screens in this weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals – but only if a decision is overturned.

The decision will be announced on the big screen before a ‘definitive video clip’ is displayed, it has been confirmed.

It comes after criticism of VAR over the lack of information provided to fans over refereeing decisions.

The Football Association have said the move will provide ‘clarity’ and ‘transparency’ for those attending matches.

Andy Ambler, the FA’s director of professional game relations, said: “The FA Cup has been at the forefront VAR testing process in England and this is the next step in its development.”

VAR decisions were shown on big screens during the World Cup in Russia last summer, but the technology has not been used in the Premier League this season after a majority of clubs rejected its implementation for 2018/19.

It has, however, been used regularly in the FA Cup over the past two seasons, although only in stadiums belonging to Premier League clubs.

Liverpool vs Wolves: Melwood graduate Conor Coady insists he’s aiming to end the Reds’ Premier League title dreams

Wolves captain Conor Coady has insisted he is aiming to end Liverpool’s Premier League title dreams on Sunday – even if it ruins his friendships.

The boyhood Red came through the ranks in the club’s academy and started his career in a Reds shirt, eventually leaving Melwood in 2014 after making two senior appearances.

But he still wants to win at Anfield in their season finale.

Conor Coady wants to beat Liverpool, even if it means they could miss out on the Premier League title

Liverpool are a point behind Manchester City in the race for the title and need to beat Wolves and hope their rivals slip up at Brighton to win their first league crown since 1990.

Coady was born in Liverpool and is a lifelong Reds fan, but will put his loyalties aside when he returns to Anfield.

“There’s no reason we can’t do a job there,” he told the Express & Star.

“We’ve played some good stuff this year, there’s been some highs, some lows, but we’ve got a certain way of playing, we’ll stick with that and hopefully end the season on a high.

“Every week I look at Liverpool and hope they win. I supported them growing up but I’m playing for Wolves now, and no matter who we are playing against, we go there to win and that’s the mentality we’ll all have.

Wolves have been the surprise package of the Premier League this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have been the next-best outside the dominating top-six, securing seventh place which will book a Europa League qualifying spot if Manchester City beat Watford in next week’s FA Cup final.

It is the highest finish of a newly-promoted club in the Premier League since Ipswich came fifth in 2001.

And Coady insists his side will be full of confidence they can get a result against a Liverpool team that has only lost once all season.

“This is our first year back in the Premier League and we have the chance to get 60 points which would be amazing,” added the defender.

Ronaldo fined, not jailed for tax fraud

MADRID • Portugal and Juventus footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted to committing tax fraud while playing for Real Madrid and agreed to pay an €18.8 million (S$29 million) fine after striking a deal with prosecutors and tax authorities in return for a 23-month suspended prison sentence.
Ronaldo, 33, had been accused of defrauding the authorities of €14.8 million in unpaid taxes between 2011 and 2014.
In 2017, Madrid's regional state prosecutor alleged that the player had used what it deemed to be a shell company in the Virgin Islands to "create a screen in order to hide his total income from Spain's tax office".
It said Ronaldo intentionally did not declare income of €28.4 million related to image rights, and declared only €11.5 million of earnings from 2011 to 2014 when his real income was almost €43 million.
The prosecutor also alleged that the forward falsely reported income as coming from real estate, which it said had greatly reduced his tax rate.
Ronaldo arrived in court in Madrid yesterday morning, wearing sunglasses and a black blazer while accompanied by his partner Georgina Rodriguez.
His request to enter the provincial court through an underground car park was denied.

  • Fine Cristiano Ronaldo will pay, in return for a 23-month suspended prison sentence, for tax fraud he committed when he was still a Real Madrid player.

"I am very well," the five-time Ballon d'Or winner told reporters outside the court after the brief hearing.
The hearing came six months after Ronaldo agreed a deal that would see him spared jail if he paid fines totalling almost €19 million.
In Spain, a judge can suspend sentences of two years or less for first-time offenders.
Meanwhile, the trial of Ronaldo's former Real teammate Xabi Alonso, also in court yesterday over accusations of tax fraud, was suspended, a court magistrate said.
Prosecutors were seeking a five-year jail sentence and a fine of €4 million for the Spaniard, who retired as a player in 2017, accusing him of defrauding the Spanish state of some €2 million between 2010 and 2012.
Alonso said he was confident he had not committed a crime and would have to wait while the magistrates evaluated his case.
"I'd be worried if I thought I had something to hide or something I didn't do right but, as that isn't the case, I am carrying on," Alonso told reporters.

Manchester United takeover latest: Saudi Arabia Crown Prince gives up on club as Glazers pledge to be more hands-on

Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has given up trying to tempt Manchester United owners, the Glazer family, into selling the club.

Avi and Joel Glazer have ‘flatly refused’ any takeover attempts as they want to take a more hands-on approach at Old Trafford, The Sun report.

Mohammed Bin Salman will no longer try to buy Man United

Bin Salman was reportedly planning on making a huge £3.8billion bid for Man United, small change considering he is reportedly worth in excess of £850billion.

The Saudi regime met super-agent Pini Zahavi, who helped Roman Abramovich complete his 2003 takeover of Chelsea, back in February to discuss ways they could advance a deal to buy Man United.

The Glazers, who took control of United back in 2005, have come under fire from the Man United support in recent times, in part due to their failure to replace Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

There is also frustration that local rivals Manchester City have left the Red Devils floundering both on and off the pitch since they were taken over by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan of Abu Dhabi in 2008.

His tally of 35 goals for Lille’s Under-17s and Under-19s in 2018/19 has certainly not gone unnoticed.

DH in Belgium report that a host of clubs are ‘keeping an eye’ on the young forward, with both Manchester United and Manchester City among the interested parties.

Also mentioned in the report are Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Red Bull Salzburg.

The teenager is capable of playing on either wing as well as through the middle.

The DH report suggests that nothing has been done yet and he will ‘explore all the avenues’ before deciding where his future lies.

“When they perform like that, and when fans travel here into this hostile atmosphere, then we deserve our moment. Thank you to the fans because we can’t do it without you.”
