Bristol City have announced their new club crest and it’s certainly dividing opinion amongst the fanbase.
Some love the robin on the ball, while other believe it’s far too similar to Brentford’s recent redesign, while also reminding others of Norwich City.
It’s a reshaped shield, and the team name is now in a red circle around the actual logo, which sits beside their 1894 foundation date.
Bristol City aren’t the only ones to announce a new badge this campaign with Hull City also altering their look.

24. Stoke City

Quite frankly, it’s hard to convey just how boring this crest is. It’s merely red and white stripes in the shield along with their name, nickname and year of their formation.
23. West Bromwich Albion

This is, thankfully, a bit better than Stoke’s thanks to the throstle depicted on it but you can’t get too far away from the ‘Tesco Value’ feel.
22. Preston North End

We understand the use of the Lamb of Saint Wilfrith but it doesn’t mean we have to like it.
21. Reading

The red, white and blue of the crest gives this a bit of oomph but it’s not as good as their elm trees badge from the early 1980s.
20. Queens Park Rangers

The brilliant typography ensures this moves a little further up the table than some other designs.
19. Wigan Athletic

In 2008/09, their fourth Premier League season, the Latics returned to a classic crest for their current effort. Fans love the ‘Tree and Crown’ thanks to it’s history and while it beats other circular badges, it’s not quite enough for anything other than mid-table.
18. Blackburn Rovers

The Ewood Park side have had their current design since 1989 and it’s beginning to show. Its focus on the Lancashire rose is excellent but the typography in particularly is looking a little dated.
17. Leeds United

It’s understandable the club had been looking to redesign their club badge. The ribbing to the shield looks a little odd, and the rose-in-the-ball should be far more prominent, but it does at least have the lovely LUFC down the centre as a nod to the club’s previous crest, which some fans regard as the best.
16. Sheffield United

We’re not fans of plain circular crests but the colours are bold and the blades do look great.
15. Derby County

They’re the Rams, it’s a ram – what more could you possibly want. It’s got a bit of style with the sharp corners and gently curved lines.
14. Birmingham City

One of the most unique badges in the Championship, it does look a little bulky but it’s instantly recognisable. It was designed by a fan in 1972 and won a competition run by the Sports Argus newspaper, although it didn’t make it onto kits until 1976.
13. Bolton Wanderers

This is marmite for some but the current version, tweaked in 2013 that has the Lancashire rose is a nice and has fans here at talkSPORT.
12. Hull City

Hull City revealed their re-designed badge in February
The tiger roaring gives the club a nice dynamic badge, which softly reminds us of the MGM lion. The addition of the club name is welcome, as is the new shape of the shield.
11. Rotherham United

They’re the Millers and they have the sails of a windmill on their crest, which is what we like to see. It’s by no means a classic but it’s got some character.
10. Norwich City

A unique badge, it’s another competition winner showing fans know their oats. If we’re being critical it could do with a tidy up when it comes to the castle and the lion, and possibly even the canary but nothing more than that. It’s fine just as it is.
9. Bristol City
It’s a stylish rebrand, that’s for sure, it does lose marks for the similarity to Brentford but overall it’s got the quality to achieve a high ranking. Chuck in the Clifton Suspension Bridge and you would have a title contender.
8. Ipswich Town

A classic badge that still holds up, even in the modern era. The Suffolk Punch horse is iconic, along with the turret that creates the shield.
7. Millwall

The leaping lion is a classic crest and despite several redesigns continues to survive and does the business for us, although the 1992 version was probably the best of them all.
6. Middlesbrough

This crest is able to appease both modernist and those who care for the club’s history. The lion is superbly detailed and works excellently, while the scroll adds a vintage feel.
5. Brentford

Simple yet bold and effective, the typography looks modern and the bee is stylish. The perfect badge as the club moves into a new era in a new stadium.
4. Aston Villa

The Villans have refined their badge over the years and produced a lovely effort. It’s simple but the lion adds dynamism, while the star showcases their historic European Cup win.
3. Sheffield Wednesday

The return to their 1956 badge looks fantastic and holds a lot more charm than their recent owl efforts that have seemed a little basic.
2. Nottingham Forest

Pretty much the perfect modern club crest and yet it was designed back in 1973. You have the tree representing Sherwood Forest and the river beneath is the Trent. Even the typography on ‘Forest’ looks great
1. Swansea City

This is a beauty and deserves top spot in our ranking thanks to the excellent artistry. Swans have often been associated with royalty so it’s no surprise this takes the crown.

The club didn't have a unique badge of it's own until 1977. Before then we used the city's coat of arms. Maybe, but once the club did then I can't see a reason to change.
