The reduction in pay, which is reportedly written into contracts to protect drops in revenues at the club, could encourage Real Madrid in their pursuit of Paul Pogba.

The 26-year-old has been mooted as a potential target for Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, who has been promised an expensive overhaul of the current crop of Los Blancos stars.

Pogba recently flirted with speculation linking him with a move to the Spanish capital, claiming playing for the European champions is ‘a dream for anyone’.

However, United boss Solskjaer believes the Frenchman will stay, insisting: â€Å“I cannot see him not playing for us next season.”

Pogba’s salary was boosted up to a lucrative £300,000-a-week deal after the Red Devils won the Europa League under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

Solskjaer believes Man United must win five of their six remaining Premier League matches to qualify through the domestic route, with the other method of qualification through Champions League glory this season.

Currently, the Red Devils are three points adrift of fourth placed Tottenham, with an inferior goal difference.

Solskjaer’s side have the daunting task of facing Lionel Messi and co in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with Barcelona visiting Old Trafford in the first leg of their quarter-final.

The Norwegian faces a selection dilemma heading into the match match, with four of United̢۪s first-team players missing training on Tuesday.

Marcus Rashford did train, but questions have been raised over his fitness after the forward started the session doing individual work, and Solskjaer provided an update on his chances of featuring against Barca.

â€Å“He needed the extra warm-up and hopefully he won’t get a reaction,” Solskjaer added. â€Å“He joined parts of it (training) at the end. Let’s see tomorrow. Hopefully he’ll be ready.”
