Leeds United transfer news: Championship promotion chasers eye move for Nahitan Nandez… if they return to the Premier League

Leeds United are reportedly keen on an ambitious move for Uruguayan World Cup star Nahitan Nandez – but only if they secure promotion to the Premier League.

Various foreign media outlets, including Ovacion and TMC, claim the Championship high flyers are keen on a summer move for the midfielder.

Should Leeds make a return to the top flight next season following a 15-year absence, they are set to splash the cash – with’s QPR Luke Freeman just one of a number of options the Whites are looking at.

Ovacion further claim that the Yorkshire outfit are willing to spend a reported Ă‚£25m to land Nandez.

Nandez, who is currently on Boca Juniors’ books, had been strongly linked with a switch to Serie A last summer after an impressive World Cup.

The 23-year-old, who has won 20 caps for his country, was part of the Uruguay side that reached the quarter-finals in Russia before losing to eventual winners France.

TMC claim Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Cagliari are all keen, but now Leeds are said to have joined the race for the midfielder.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men would have to have earn promotion for the move to be a feasible one, both for the club and for the player to even consider the move to Elland Road.

South American radio station Continental claimed last year that Nandez had a Ă‚£12m release clause in his contract, with Newcastle showing an interest at that time.

Should Bielsa’s men end up forking out a higher fee than that for the talented midfielder, it would be their most expensive transfer since signing Robbie Fowler from Liverpool in 2001.
