Regardless, two days after the final, which Liverpool won 3-0, Newcastle returned home to a heroes’ welcome.
If Twitter was a thing in 1974, users would have had a field day, especially those in Sunderland whose fans would have taken particular joy in their rivals celebrating defeat considering they were FA Cup winners a year earlier.

Newcastle may have lost to a team that went on to dominate at home and abroad, but the Geordie faithful still wanted to let them know they were proud of them.
